Identify Your Water System
Identify Your Water System

Selecting the right shower for your water system, aswell as for you and your family can often seem quite daunting, therefore you firstly need to identify the water or plumbing system in your home.

In this section you will find general guidance information on different water systems generally
or more commonly found in UK home. If you are in any doubt as to your water system set up,
or type of shower needed, we would always recommend you contact a fully qualified installer or plumber for clarification on compatibility.
Gravity Fed and Pumped Gravity Fed Water Systems.

Gravity Fed Systems are the most commonly found installation in the UK. Water is supplied from a hot tank (usually sited in an airing cupboard) and cold water tank/storage (usually sited in the loft). Some installations may have gravity fed hot taps and mains cold. (common in the kitchen mixer)

Pumped Gravity Fed Water System is a Gravity system with the addition of a booster pump to increase flow to particular taps, most commonly in the shower or bathroom.
The larger the pump the greater the water flow rate.

Combination Boiler Systems.

Combination boilers are mains fed pressurised systems supplying instantaneously heated water "on demand", heating the water as it is used direct from the boiler with cold water supplied from the mains. This system has no pumps and requires no hot or cold storage tanks.

Mains Fed Pressurised/Unvented Systems.

Pressurised or Unvented systems (sometimes called a megaflow) are less commonly found installations where the hot water is stored under mains pressure, requiring no cold water tank/storage in the loft and the performance is dependant on the mains supply pressure.

Water Pressure
Low Pressure (LP)

Products marked or listed as Low pressure or LP are usually designed for use on both Gravity systems and Pressurised systems. Sometimes products may also be listed as suitable for use on LP/HP.
A minimum operating pressure of 0.1bar is recommended.
High Pressure (HP)

Products marked or listed as High Pressure or HP are usually designed for use with pressurised/pumped systems. They can sometimes also be used in conjunction with mains fed combination boilers, pressurised/unvented systems, or pumped gravity systems (not standard/non pumped gravity systems) providing they have the correct minimum pressure and set-up requirements for the chosen product.
A minimum operating pressure of 1.0 bar is recommended.
